How to fix broken emergency lights?

In this tutorial we will teach you how to fix broken lights on vehicles in your FiveM server.

It is a very common issue but has quite an easy fix.

99% of the time the cause of the lights being broken is ID overlaps in your server. When 2 vehicles in your server have the same siren ID the one started first will work and the other will not.

Automate this process and save your sanity and time

From our partner, the carcols fixer that scans all of your vehicles for overlaps and fixes them fully automatically so you don't have to worry about this issue ever again!

Step 1: Find your carcols.meta and carvariations.meta files.

These files will be found in the vehicle resource file, usually either in the root of the folder, or in a folder called data.

Open them both in a text editor.

Step 2: Edit carcols.meta.

In the carcols.meta find the ID value (at the top of the file:

<sirenSettings>
  <Item>
    <id value="127"/>
    <name>car_name_or_something</name>
    ...

Change the number inside of the quotes to a number between 16 and 255. Contrary to popular belif this is the actual range that will work. Numbers that go below 16 will never work due to them being used by vanilla cars. Numbers over 255 will work but they are converted to a number under 255 by the game, so just makes your life harder.

Step 3: Edit carvariations.meta.

In the carvariations find the sirenSettings value (at the bottom of the file):

     ...
      <lightSettings value="1"/>
      <sirenSettings value="127"/>

    </Item>

Change the sirenSettings value to the same value that you just updated in the carcols.meta.

Step 5: Restart the resource.

Lastly, restart the resource and test the vehicle. If the lights are still out of place try with a different number. If you have many vehicles in your server you might need to do it a few times.
